Warship of Arab origin
The xebec was a common boat in the Mediterranean of the seventh century.
These vessels have probably Arab origins, they had a gross tonnage not exceeding 150 tons.
Built initially for trade, thanks to their high speed and maneuverability Xebecs were used in war and by pirates who infested the Mediterranean. Their lightness allowed them to quickly navigate by sail, and in the absence of wind they were equipped with oars. The stern where was the captain and the owner, was often covered by a colorful tent.
